It’s nearly time for AWS Re:Invent 2016
In just over one month the world’s largest global cloud computing conference takes place in Las Vegas: AWS Re:Invent.
AWS Re:Invent is an annual event that has been running since 2012 and is the largest gathering of the global Amazon Web Services community.
The size and popularity of the conference has mirrored the growth of AWS. Back in 2012 there were around 5,700 attendees (or re:inventors as Amazon calls them) and 150 learning sessions.
This year Amazon are expecting between 24,000-29,000 attendees, sorry re:inventors, and there will over 400 sessions, bootcamps, hands-on labs and workshops available to attend as well as an ever growing Expo.
The conference has now become so big that it will not only take over the Venetian hotel, but also large parts of The Mirage and Encore.
Aside from all the learning opportunities, AWS Re:Invent also hosts two big Keynote speeches. These are big razzmatazz affairs where Andy Jassy (AWS CEO) and Werner Vogels (Amazon.com CTO and Vice President) announce the latest and greatest AWS innovations and services. Think Steve Jobs launching the iPhone back in the day, but on a smaller scale and not quite as cool! Well it’s not cool unless you are a re:inventor of course!
It’s also not all work, work, work. It is being hosted in Vegas after all! There are networking events, welcome receptions, pub crawls and the re:Play Party which is so big it’s held in the LINQ parking lot (it’s more glamorous than it sounds).
So who is else is going? Be sure to let me know and also follow my Re:Invent thoughts on twitter (@databasable) and hopefully I will see you at one of the learning sessions, workshops, bars or blackjack tables!
